Getting started with Koha

If you're signing up as an:

Individual:

• Full name
• Profile picture

Organisation:

• Legal name and operating name
• Logo image
• Registered address (PO Box or home address if needed) and contact phone number
• New Zealand Business Number (NZBN)
• Details for someone authorised to act on behalf of your organisation

If you are missing any of this information - you can sign up to Koha as an individual.

Tax credits:

To enable tax credits for givers, provide:

• IRD number
• Official receipt logo

Registered Charities:

• Charity registration number (issued by the New Zealand Charities Service)

Koha partners with Stripe to handle payments, ensuring your transactions are secure and reliable. To publish your event, we need some additional information about you or your organisation and those who run it.

Why We Use Stripe:

Stripe helps us comply with anti-money laundering (AML) and know your customer (KYC) requirements. This ensures that all transactions are secure and legitimate.

Information We Need:

Individuals:

• Legal first/last name, date of birth, home address, and phone number
• Nominated bank account to receive payments

Charities (Rōpū Mahi Atawhai):

• Legal first/last name, date of birth, home address, and phone number for a senior manager (e.g., CEO, general manager)
• Legal first/last name and email address of any executives or senior managers
• Nominated bank account to receive payments

Kura (Schools, Kōhanga Reo, ECE):

• Legal first/last name, date of birth, home address, and phone number for a principal, office manager, finance assistant, or kaiwhakahaere
• Legal first/last name and email address of any other senior managers
• Nominated bank account to receive payments

Pākihi and Organisations (Business, Incorporated Societies, Government Agencies):

• Legal first/last name, date of birth, home address, and phone number for a senior manager (e.g., CEO, general manager)
• Legal first/last name and email address of any other people that own more than 25% of the business or have significant responsibility
• Nominated bank account to receive payments

Additional Verification:

If Stripe is unable to verify any contacts' identities automatically, you may need to provide proof of address and/or proof of identity documents.

Once you've been onboarded to Stripe and our admin team have approved your account, you can start to create events.

In order to create an event, you'll need the following:

• Title, description, event date and when you'll stop accepting koha.
• Event image and/or a welcome video - something that'll make your event memorable.
• Event target or a suggested koha amount so givers know how much they should give and how much you want to fundraise.
